New year-round offering provides credible validation of governance and risk management practices through a focused assessment built from the GRESB Real Estate Standard.
AMSTERDAM, July 1, 2026 — GRESB today announced the launch of Fundamentals, a focused, GRESB-aligned approach for real estate managers to validate and communicate sustainability governance and risk management practices.
The launch reflects GRESB’s continued commitment to enabling financial markets to make informed decisions by transforming fragmented sustainability data and frameworks into trusted, decision-grade intelligence that drives capital allocation and asset improvement.
Built on 17 foundational indicators drawn directly from the GRESB Real Estate Standard, Fundamentals provides organizations new to GRESB with a practical and structured way to demonstrate oversight, accountability, and risk management practices that underpin investor confidence and long-term value creation.
“Fundamentals was developed to address a growing need in the market for a credible and accessible way to demonstrate sustainability oversight,” said Mathilde Petriat, Chief Growth & Impact Officer at GRESB. “Every organization’s sustainability journey begins somewhere. Fundamentals enables real estate managers in established and emerging markets to demonstrate a strong governance approach and risk management practices from the outset, while continuing to strengthen asset-level performance over time. It provides a credible foundation for investor engagement today and prepares organizations for future participation in the GRESB Real Estate Assessment.”
Fundamentals is available year-round through the GRESB Portal, allowing organizations to participate when ready, receive validated results shortly after submission, and update and resubmit as their practices evolve. Participants receive a clear pass or fail outcome supported by a formal report and indicator-level feedback, helping them strengthen governance and risk management practices and inform the next stage of their sustainability strategy.
Designed as a structured entry point to the GRESB Real Estate Assessment, Fundamentals helps organizations establish governance foundations and align with growing investor expectations before progressing to the full assessment. It focuses on six core areas: commitments, governance, policies, risk assessments, stakeholder engagement, and monitoring. Organizations can participate in Fundamentals for up to three years to build confidence, strengthen foundational practices, and prepare for full participation in the GRESB Real Estate Assessment.
Fundamentals is now available globally to real estate managers and funds new to GRESB through the GRESB Portal.
