GRESB Real Estate Standard: Road to Performance—Public Consultation

Help shape how performance will be recognized and weighted in future GRESB Real Estate Standard.

The GRESB Foundation is seeking feedback on proposed updates to strengthen the role of measured, real-world performance within the Real Estate Standard. These proposals aim to increase the weighting of performance-based scoring while maintaining stability, comparability, and feasibility across markets.

Why this consultation matters

Over the past 15 years, the GRESB benchmark has matured alongside the market. As sustainability practices have become more widespread, scores have increasingly clustered at the top end of the benchmark, making it more difficult to distinguish leadership based on outcomes alone. At the same time, investor expectations continue to rise, with greater scrutiny on whether sustainability strategies are delivering measurable results.

Climate priorities—particularly energy efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions—have sharpened significantly. Capital allocation, regulation, and disclosure expectations are increasingly tied to credible decarbonization progress. The proposed updates respond to these real-world dynamics and aim to ensure the Standard continues to reflect the demands and maturity of the market.
