This Indicator intends to assess the entity’s disclosure of green building certifications or energy ratings. These provide a measure of asset quality that may benefit occupants, society, and the environment. Building certifications also serve as an additional layer of transparency and accountability to inform investors and occupiers on the sustainability performance of an asset.

Terminology

Disclosure

The act of making information or data readily accessible and available to all interested individuals and institutions. Disclosure does not need to be public, but must be external to the reporting entity and cannot be an internal and/or ad hoc communication within the participating entity. 

Energy Rating

A scheme that measures the energy efficiency performance of buildings.

Green Building Certification

Recognition that a project has received a green building rating. A certificate indicates the name and location of the project, version of the rating system, date of certification, and level of recognition.

In order for points to be given for the sub-options selected, the following must be present in the supporting evidence:

  • Name and location of the property/project.

  • Name of the certification.

A best practice disclosure often includes a concise overview of which assets in the portfolio are certified, and which are not certified, or to be certified. Information of the certified portfolio then includes:

  • Name and location of the project.

  • Version of the rating system.

  • Date of certification and level of recognition.
