Terminology

Biodiversity

means the variability among living organisms arising from all sources including terrestrial, marine and other aquatic ecosystems and the ecological complexes of which they are part and includes diversity within species, between species and of ecosystems.

Biodiversity-sensitive areas

means Natura 2000 network of protected areas, UNESCO World Heritage sites and Key Biodiversity Areas (‘KBAs’), as well as other protected areas, as referred to in Appendix D of Annex II to Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2021/213912; (EU).

Protected area

Means an area designated under the European Environment Agency’s Common Database on Designated Areas (CDDA); (EU).
