GRESB is an industry-driven organization committed to assessing the sustainability performance of real assets around the globe, including real estate portfolios (public, private and direct). On behalf of close to 60 institutional investors, GRESB has assessed almost 1,100 property companies and funds globally.
Benchmarking the sustainability performance of property companies and funds helps to generate and strengthen the market forces needed to bring environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues to the forefront of business. By participating in GRESB’s annual assessment, companies and fund managers will be able to better manage their portfolios in the face of more volatile energy supply, stricter legislation to combat climate change, increased energy efficiency requirements and changing preferences of corporate tenants.
The benchmark results provide property companies and funds with the opportunity to identify the areas in which sustainability performance can be improved, both in absolute terms and relative to a competitive peer set. Furthermore, companies and funds can use the results as a toolkit for internal and external stakeholder engagement. Participating in the benchmark enables consistent communication of commitments to sustainability and responsible investing to existing and potential investors. This is increasingly seen as material information on which investors base their investment decisions.
